Project Implementation is a key value driver in APM Terminals. Our ability to build a terminal, establish an operational organization and secure commercial business delivers real NPV to APMT.

Delivering an integrated, commissioned and working terminal to the operations team is an important value driver within APM Terminals. Failure to deliver the asset(s) within scope, on time and budget hurts APM Terminals in the long run. Equally, being able to improve on the original plans for a project secures incremental value for APM Terminals.

The objective of this position is to set-up, maintain, analyse and improve the overall project schedule by combining relevant scheduling input from the project team, consultants, contractors and suppliers, and offsetting it against the agreed baseline(s).

Key Responsibilities

Overall
• Set-up the overall master baseline schedule, using initial project tender schedules and incorporating baseline schedules from consultants, contractors and suppliers in line with company standards (WBS, scheduling and EVM).
• Maintain and progress the project master schedule(s), identifying and analysing delays and working with subject matter experts to develop mitigations and schedule optimisation opportunities and alternative delivery strategies.
• Directly liaise with the project team and third party (i.e. consultants, contractors and suppliers) planners to obtain insight to potential delays, validate data integrity and support schedule improvement initiatives.
• Manage all scope changes to the schedule(s).
• Support planning workshops.
• Lead the development of bid and change proposal schedules.
• Produce and develop routine schedule progress reports, including metrics to assist with project and management decision-making (i.e. float-path analysis).

General
• Monitor vendor progress and delivery status in a transparent manner (progress and delivery maintain the responsibilities of the consultants, contractors and suppliers).
• Be competent and confident in influencing the decision making processes concerned with planning aspects of the project.
• Ensure the project is aware of future activities and develop plans to address key activities such as end-phase activities, milestones and deliverables, in a timely manner.
• Provide support to the Quantity Surveyor (Contracts Manager) with the administration of all contracts.

Controls & governance
• Implement and uphold APMT’s WBS, scheduling, EVM and reporting standards.
• In line with corporate standards, implement best in class planning practices across the construction project and ensure they are consistently deployed by all parties.
• Monitor and assess scheduling opportunities, risks and subsequent mitigation strategies, and track such risks through input into the project risk register.
• Provide structured feedback to the GTF-delivery team.

Communications
• Ensure clear communication is maintained within the asset delivery team.
• Ensure consistent input into project reporting.
• Meet regularly with (the planners of) consultants, contractors and suppliers to maintain full awareness of issues which may impact scope, progress, interfaces and/or milestones.
• Address emerging issues with the Head of Construction, Equipment and Project IT.

Interfaces
• Work closely with the Interface, Civil, Equipment and IT Managers ensuring that:

  • dependencies from elements outside the team’s responsibilities (e.g. operations, commercial, legal, HR, etc.) affecting asset delivery are well understood, and
  • the Interface, Civil, Equipment and IT Managers understand impacts of schedule changes on asset delivery.

• Liaise with the GTF department to ensure consistency with company standards.

Who we are looking for

Experience
• Minimum 5 years advanced professional project planning experience:

  • of high complexity and variety in the fields of automation, civil, equipment, installations and/or IT, and
  • in setting up and maintaining an overall project WBS, scheduling and EVM, and
  • in building detailed project schedules.

• Minimum 8 years relevant project experience.

Skills
• Team player.
• Have a strong understanding of complex and interdependent project planning, built on a solid foundation of technical engineering skills.
• Good communication skills, where sufficient level of English is a must, and French is preferred.
• Persuasive, being able to influence others in order to reach the project goals.
• Result orientated.
• Proficient with Primavera P6.
• High attention to detail.
• Sensitive to cultural diversity and experience in a multicultural environment, in regard to colleagues, employees of consultants, contractors and suppliers, and other stakeholders.

Education
• Technical engineering background.
• Project scheduling certification is preferred.
• APM or similar project-related qualification is desired.

• Implement, maintain and drive the transparent application of the APMT project management and control tools by the project team itself and its consultants, contractors and suppliers.
• Obtain and maintain scope, schedule and budget baselines.
• Facilitate:

  • the correct application of the change management processes (changes to scope, schedule and budget),
  • the risk management process and ensure timely input from the project team,
  • the document management process, and
  • the correspondence registration system.

• Ensure correct and timely reporting:

  • within the project and team,
  • to the Head of Construction, Equipment and Project IT, and Terminal Managing Director,
  • to the Head of Asset Delivery, and
  • to other corporate counterparts (as required).

• Act as primary point of contact for all project control systems (mainly PMWeb) and be responsible for the user rights administration.
• Liaise with the corporate counterpart on project control system issues and improvements.

Construction controls & governance
• Implement APMT project controls / project procedures to manage the construction and delivery of equipment and project IT in a forward-looking manner.
• Track project progress against the approved baselines and, where appropriate, ensure issues are pro-actively addressed, resolved and/or escalated and reported.

Communications
• Ensure clear and consistent reporting within and from the project team.
• Regularly meet with the construction, equipment and IT teams to maintain awareness of (potential) project control issues.
• Build working relations with counterparts at the head office, consultants, contractors and suppliers.

Interfaces
• Work closely with the project team to maintain consistent and accurate project control.
• Liaise with the APMT Global Technical Function (GTF) to ensure consistency with company standards.
• Provide feedback to the Global Technical Function team.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, assess and analyse all concession, consultancy, construction and, equipment and project IT supplier agreements.
• Clearly communicate contractual requirements and other obligations, both internal and external.
• Together with the Head of Construction, Equipment and IT, prepare and manage contractual and commercial strategies.
• Administer all project contracts: contractual changes, variations, claims, disputes and commercial functions.
• Endeavour to prevent disputes through proactive contract management, and provide advice on the resolution of disputes when they occur.
• Identify and monitor contractual and commercial risks and opportunities within the project.
• Implement and maintain relevant contract and commercial administration systems and procedures, such as:

  • Change, variation, claim, dispute registers
  • Correspondence registration
  • Cash flow
  • Payment certification
  • Forecasting

• Liaise with the authority compliance / permit team, to ensure all contractual permits and approvals are in place for the timely delivery of the project.
• Provide input and assistance (where required) on all APMT’s internal / external reporting obligations.
• Liaise with relevant disciplines within APMT on contractual and commercial matters.
• Identify and suggest improvements to APMT standard forms of contract and future activities.

Who we are looking for

Experience
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in a construction / project related environment
• Relevant project experience and exposure to project controls (cost and value reporting systems)
• Extensive knowledge and working experience with international standard construction contracts, such as the FIDIC (or NEC) forms of contract (red, yellow, white, green, blue book)
• Prior exposure to claims / dispute resolution
• Understanding of the port activities and operation of a container terminal
• Knowledge of Moroccan and English law
